POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) is a type of dysautonomia, a disorder of the autonomic nervous system. It is characterized by an abnormal increase in heart rate (tachycardia) and often a drop in blood pressure upon standing up from a sitting or lying down position. Symptoms of POTS may include dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, rapid heartbeat, blurred vision, brain fog, fatigue, and weakness. The condition is more common in women and typically develops in young adults. The exact cause of POTS is unknown, but it can be triggered by various factors such as a viral infection, surgery, or pregnancy. Treatment options for POTS include medications, lifestyle modifications (such as increasing fluid and salt intake), and physical therapy. While it can be a chronic and debilitating condition, many people with POTS are able to manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives.
